What is aChemical Peel?
Chemical Peels are defined as the application of one or more exfoliating agents to the skin to produce controlled destruction of portions of the epidermis and/or dermis with subsequent regeneration of new epidermal and dermal tissues.

How deep will the Peel exfoliate my skin?
There are four main depths of chemical peels.
Very Superficial (Exfoliation): These peels thin or remove the stratum corneum.
Superficial (Epidermal): These peels create necrosis of part or all of the epidermis. Medium (Papillary Dermis): These peels create necrosis of the epidermis and part or all of the papillary dermis.
Deep (Reticular Dermis): These peels create necrosis of the epidermis and papillary dermis extending into the mid reticular dermis.

What skin types can peels be performed on?
All Fitzpatrick’s skin types one through six.

What types of skin conditions do peels treat?
The peel is recommended for the following:
  • FacialRejuvenation
  • Photoaging
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Acne- Mild papulopustular and/or comedonal
  • Scarring- Mild and superficial, particularly acne scars
  • Shaving irritation- Men with shaving irritation on face or neck

Will the peels thin out my skin?
No. The peels will exfoliate the stratum corneum, thinning out the horny layer of the skin. The salicylic acid is a keratoplastic; it thickens the epidermis by increasing cell layers.

What results can I expect from the peels and how long after I start my series will I see these results?
Each individual experiences different results, so it will vary from patient to patient. Most patients notice a difference in the skin texture and overall appearance immediately after the first peel. A series of six peels is recommended for maximum results. Maintenance sessions can then be scheduled based on your personal needs.

Will I have down time in between my peels?
There is no down time with peels. It is recommended that you use the recommended Face Cream daily to ensure the skin is properly nourished and moisturized between peels. This can also prevent flaking of the skin.

How long after laser hair removal and microdermabrasion can I have a peel?
One monthis recommended.

Will my acne get worse from the  peels?
It may seem worse as the skin gets unplugged in the beginning stages and the blackheads and comedones are being purged from the skin. But it is important to note that peels have been proven to improve acne overall not contribute to it.

Can I expose my skin to the sun while having the Peels?
It is always recommended to use an SPF 15 or higher daily.

Can I continue to use soap and water at home while receiving the peels?
In many cases the results of the peel are greatly improved by priming the skin with the homecare system. Consult with your service provider to learn more about the recommended products for your skin type.

What persons are not suited to receive the peels?
The peels are not used on patients who are taking Accutane (or have taken it in the past year). It is also recommended to abstain from peels for women who are pregnant or nursing, and those with certain systemic allergies. Your professionally trained technician or doctor can review any contra-indications and advise you for your specific situation.
